Accidents at warehouses happen every day, and the most challenging part is always proving who is at fault. Workers often deny responsibility, refuse to admit their guilt, and try to shift all the blame onto the driver.
The most important steps to take immediately:
- If someone has been physically injured, call the police immediately (phone 110) and emergency services (112).
- In case of a fire or a hazardous liquid spill, call the fire department (112).
Remember: ensuring safety is always the top priority!
Next, the driver will have to play detective:
- Notify company management about the incident.
- Take photos of the damage, the accident site, the equipment of the responsible party, and the truck’s position during loading. Be sure to capture the license plate clearly in the photos.
- Locate witnesses and record their contact details (full name and phone number). It’s excellent if someone agrees to provide a written statement.
- Find out who is responsible for handling damages at the company, obtain their contact details, and determine the company’s insurance provider.
Important! A warehouse accident is not a traffic accident. The insurance must cover any damage.
- Draft an incident report describing the visible damage. The report must be signed by the warehouse supervisor and the responsible party (if another truck is involved).
- If another truck caused the damage, find out who in their company handles damage claims and obtain their contact details.
- Do not sign anything you don’t understand or don’t agree with!
